The Skin Diet

While having quality products are of course important when on the journey to healthy skin, it’s not the only piece to the puzzle.

Healthy skin is a combination of genetics, diet, products, and lifestyle.

Here, we are touching on the diet portion of this skincare puzzle. Check out our top 3 diet tips to help you get on the right path to healthy skin.

Drink Your Water

We know, we know! Everyone is saying it! Ugh, lol. Let us explain a bit further, we really want you to understand the impact. The skin is the largest organ on the body, so you’ve got to get to guzzling ASAP. If our skin is not receiving an adequate amount of water, it loses its elasticity and can crack (hello wrinkles). Also, drinking water keeps the digestive system and metabolism working to flush those icky toxins out of the body. This is also a contributor to healthy looking skin. According to the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine women should be drinking about 11.5 cups per day and men 15.5 cups. Go get your drink on!

Limit A Few Things

Let’s have a science lesson. When blood sugar rises quickly, it triggers the body to release insulin. Excess insulin production can cause our oil glands to produce oil, which can lead to acne. These are a few foods that are known to trigger spikes in insulin- pasta, white rice, white bread and sugar. You don’t have to say bye bye, but give em’ a break every now and then. Read more about this here. P.S. Dark chocolate can stay. It’s high in antioxidants! Yaas!

Add A Few Things
Now that we’ve got you all bummed about the foods you should reduce, let’s talk about the ones worth keeping around or maybe even trying for the first time.

*Berries- blackberries, cranberries, goji berries! Find your fav berry and have at it.
Berries are packed with antioxidants! Woot woot. Antioxidants have amazing anti-inflammatory properties, which is a win for your skin!

*Turmeric- Add a few dashes to your favorite smoothies and guzzle away. If you’re the type that likes to just get it over with, you can also find this in a shot at many local juiceries. We know it’s not the best tasting, but you don’t need a lot to get the job done. Turmeric balances the skin’s flora and protects against free radicals!

*Citrus Fruits- oranges, grapefruits, lemons, if it’s citrus then it is your friend. The vitamin c in citrus  supports collagen which helps the skin remain firm. Hint: that’s why it’s included in our Purifying Detox Cleanser.
