How to Use Vitamin C

With the release of our new products, a few questions have rolled in about the use of Vitamin C and exactly how it should fit into your skincare routine. Well, look no further- we are here to help! Here are the top tips we feel you should know if you are new to using Vitamin C in your skincare routine.

Best Used During The Morning
Though there is no law against using Vitamin C at night, you get the most benefit from using it in the morning. Vitamin C is known for protecting the skin against free radicals. Free radicals break down the skin’s collagen resulting in wrinkles, dark spots and fine lines. Free radicals can be found in the foods we eat, the water we drink and even in the air. Now, you see why morning use is the most efficient? Night use definitely won’t hurt, but don’t forget to apply in the morning also!

Apply Vitamin C on Clean Skin
If you are using our vitamin C lotion, it is best to apply it after washing your face. If you’ve opted for a toner, apply the vitamin C lotion after the toner. The best way to remember the order of applying products is to follow the thinnest to thickest rule.

Don’t Use With Benzoyl Peroxide
Many cleansers on the market are popular for containing benzoyl peroxide. If your cleanser contains this ingredient, you may experience a bit of stinging and possibly redness once you apply your vitamin c product. Opt for a gentler cleanser like our Pure Acne Wash or our Purifying Detox Cleanser instead. They are gentle, aloe based cleansers that won’t result in that level of irritation. If you have to have your products that contain the benzoyl peroxide (BP) then use the cleanser separate from the vitamin c in order to avoid the irritation. For example, consider using the BP in the evening and applying the vitamin c in the morning.

Purchase w/ the Right Packaging
Like many skincare products, the ingredients in vitamin c products are sensitive to light and oxygen. In order to maintain your product’s effectiveness, purchase your products in containers known to provide this protection. This is the number 1 reason why our products are stored in amber, glass bottles. It blocks the light and UV radiation from affecting your products.
